Psychiatry

Psychiatry is the medical specialty that focuses on the study and treatment of mental disorders. The goal of a psychiatrist is to treat mental disorders that fall in one of three categories: mental illness, severe learning disability or personality disorder. SJMG psychiatrists treat patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings for conditions such as ADD/ADHD, anger, depression, fatigue, irritability, OCD, weight management and anxiety, bipolar, mood, panic and stress-related disorders. Bryan E. Flueckiger, MD, is a board-certified psychiatrist with St. Joseph Medical Group Inc., who practices at Psychiatric Care. Dr. Flueckiger, who specializes in adult and geriatric psychiatry, graduated from Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne and earned his medical degree from Southern Illinois University. He completed a psychiatry residency at Hershey Medical Center in Pennsylvania.

Dr. Flueckiger, who is a noted speaker on depression, dementia, ECT, psychopharmacology and geriatric mental health, is the medical director of St. Joseph Behavioral Health and St. Joseph ECT Services. He is certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, and he is a member of the American Psychiatric Association and the Indiana Psychiatric Society.

Steven Schneider, MD, a member of St. Joseph Medical Group Inc., provides consulting and inpatient services to area hospitals. Dr. Schneider, who specializes in adult and geriatric psychiatry, is a graduate of the University of Rochester, Rochester, N.Y. (1980), the University of Illinois School of Medicine (1988) and the Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis, where he completed his residency in psychiatry in 1992.

Dr. Schneider, who is the medical director of Lutheran Generations 1 and ECT Services, is certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and is a member of the American Psychiatric Association and the Indiana State Medical Association.
