OB/GYN

Obstetrics and gynecology are the two medical specialties that focus on the female reproduction organs in both the nonpregnant and pregnant state. An obstetrician is a physician who manages pregnancy , labor, delivery and the period of time directly following the baby's birth. A gynecologist is a physician specialty trained to manage the female reproductive system, including the diagnosis and treatment of disorders and diseases. The two specialties are frequently combined to form the medical specialty abbreviated OB/GYN.

Chik Amechi, MD, became the first OB/GYN specialist to join St. Joseph Medical Group when he joined in August 2010. Prior to joining SJMG, he worked at Allen County OB/GYN Associates, a practice he started in June 1992.

Dr. Amechi graduated cum laude with a bachelor's degree in biology from Central Michigan University in Mount Pleasant, Mich., in 1974. He earned a medical degree from Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit in 1979, and he completed an internship and residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Providence Hospital in Southfield, Mich.

Dr. Amechi is board certified by the American Board of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and is a fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology. He is member of the American Medical Association, the American Society of Reproductive Medicine, the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists and the Society for Laparoendoscopic Surgeons. He is also a member of the Indiana State Medical Association and the Fort Wayne Medical Society.

Jyothirmai K. Reddy, MD, FACOG, joined St. Joseph Medical Group in June 2012. Prior to joining SJMG, she was a member of OB/GYN Associates of Fort Wayne for 14 years.

Dr. Reddy, who has more than 20 years of experience as an OB/GYN, completed a bachelor's degree at Osmania University in Andhra Pradesh, India, in 1973, and a bachelor's degree in medicine and science at Nagarjuna University, also in Andhra Pradesh, in 1981. She completed an internship in at Government General Hospital in Guntur, India. She served as junior registrar at Victoria Jubilee Hospital in Kingston Jamaica, and she earned an ambulatory fellowship in 1988 and completed a residency in obstetrics and gynecology in 1992, both at Cook County Hospital in Chicago.

Dr. Reddy is a member of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, the Indiana State Medical Association, the Fort Wayne Medical Society and the Allen County Medical Alliance.

Judy Zacher, MD, joined St. Joseph Medical Group in January 2012. Prior to joining SJMG, she was the physician/owner of Women Caring for Women. From 2001 to 2006, she was a member of Dupont OB/GYN.

Dr. Zacher earned a nursing degree from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor in 1983 and completed a master's in business administration at the same school in 1987.She was a nurse for two years and worked in healthcare marketing for five years before returning to school and earning a medical degree from the Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis in 1997. She completed an obstetrics and gynecology residency at Wayne State University in Detroit in 2001.

Dr. Zacher, who is board certified, has been a diplomat of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology since 2005. She is a member of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, the American Medical Association, the Indiana State Medical Association and the Fort Wayne Medical Society.
