Chik Amechi, MD, became the first OB/GYN specialist to join St. Joseph Medical Group when he joined in August 2010. Prior to joining SJMG, he worked at Allen County OB/GYN Associates, a practice he started in June 1992.

Dr. Amechi graduated cum laude with a bachelor's degree in biology from Central Michigan University in Mount Pleasant, Mich., in 1974. He earned a medical degree from Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit in 1979, and he completed an internship and residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Providence Hospital in Southfield, Mich.

Dr. Amechi is board certified by the American Board of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and is a fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology. MinXin Fu, MD, PhD, FAAP, a board-certified pediatrician comes to SJMG from Goshen General Hospital, where he was a pediatrician for two years. Dr. Fu's clinical interests include newborn care, obesity, ADHD and asthma.

Dr. Fu graduated from Fujian Medical University in Fujian, China, in 1984. He completed a residency in internal medicine and worked as an internal medicine physician at Union Hospital, Fujian Medical University in Fujian, China, from 1984 to 1987. He went on to complete a fellowship in endocrinology with clinical research at First Hospital of Peking University School of Medicine in Beijing in 1990. He later graduated from the University of South Carolina in Columbia in 1996 with a Ph.D. and postdoctoral fellowship in biochemistry.

Dr. Fu was the medical and science director at Wellness Service, OXIS International in Portland, Ore., from 1998 to 2004, and he spent time as a research scientist at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation Research Institute in Cleveland before returning to school to complete a pediatric internship and residency at Infants & Children's Hospital of Brooklyn, Maimonides Medical Center, Brooklyn, N.Y., in 2007.

Nancy V. Gardner, NP, joined St. Joseph Medical Group and Ryan Cardiology in September 2010. Prior to joining SJMG, she worked for Baltes Cardiology in Fort Wayne for 20 years, and she worked as a registered nurse at St. Joseph Hospital.

Gardner earned a bachelor's degree in nursing from the Baptist School of Nursing in Nashville, Tenn., in 1968. She also earned a bachelor's degree in psychology from Christopher Newport College in Newport News, Va., in 1975. Gardner earned a master's degree in business administration in 1983 and a master's in the family nurse practitioner program in 2006, both at the University of Saint Francis.

Ammar Ghanem, MD, FCCP, DABSM, joined St. Joseph Medical Group in July 2010 after serving as an attending physician at Southern Ohio Medical Center in Portsmouth, Ohio, since 2005. He also served on the faculty at Ohio University in Athens, Southern Ohio Medical Center.

Dr. Ghanem earned a medical degree from Damascus University Medical School in Damascus, Syria, in 1994. He trained in internal medicine at Damascus University and Ministry of Health Hospitals, where he was named graduate of the year. In 2003, he completed an internal medicine residency at Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, Pa., which is an affiliate of State University of New York Upstate Medical University at Syracuse.

He completed fellowships in sleep and pulmonology at Marshall University, Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine in Huntington, W.V., in 2005, and in 2010, he completed a fellowship in critical care at the University of Pittsburg Medical Center in Pittsburgh, Pa.

Hamid S. Hamdi, MD, a board-certified neurologist, has joined the neurology team at St. Joseph Medical Group. Dr. Hamdi is also board certified in neurorehabilitation.

Before coming to Fort Wayne, Dr. Hamdi was a staff physician at the New York University Medical Center and Hospital for Joint Diseases and taught as a clinical assistant professor at the NYU School of Medicine. Prior to that, he worked at St. Johns Regional Medical Center in Joplin, Mo., and at the Lafayette Home Hospital and St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Lafayette, Ind.

Diana L. Lackey, MD, a pulmonologist, joined St. Joseph Medical Group in September 2007. Dr. Lackey, who is experienced in pulmonary and critical care medicine, was in private practice in Atlanta, Ga., before coming to Fort Wayne.

Chung-Seng Lee, MD, who began his private practice in Fort Wayne in 1981, became the first gastroenterologist to join St. Joseph Medical Group when he joined in January 2011. Prior to that, he worked as the chief of medical services and as a gastroenterologist at the Veterans' Administration Medical Center in Fort Wayne.

Dr. Lee earned a medical degree from the National Taiwan University School of Medicine in Taipei, where he was also an internal medicine resident until 1972. He completed an internal medicine internship at Mount Sinai Medical Center in Elmhurst, N.Y. in 1973, and an internal medicine residency at Highland Hospital in Rochester, N.Y., in 1974. He completed a fellowship in gastroenterology at Strong Memorial Hospital, also in Rochester, in 1977. Dr. Lee also served as a second lieutenant surgeon in the Taiwanese military.

Dr. Lee, who has served in numerous leadership roles at Dupont and St. Joseph hospitals, has published and presented extensively on gastroenterological issues. A native of Urbana, Ohio, Dr. Ryan graduated magna cum laude from St. Gregory Seminary in Cincinnati, Ohio, in 1971, with a bachelor's degree in philosophy. He earned a bachelor's degree in circulation technology from The Ohio State University in Columbus in 1975 and a medical degree from Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine in Kirksville, Mo. in 1979. Dr. Ryan completed a flexible internship in 1980 and an internal medicine residency in 1982 at David Grant Medical Center, Travis Air Force Base, near Fairfield, Calif., and he completed a fellowship in cardiology in 1991 at the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine.

Dr. Ryan began his medical career at Wilford Hall Air Force Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas. He served as chief of internal medicine at First Strategic Hospital at Vandenberg Air Force Base in Santa Barbara County, Calif. He was promoted to major in the United State Air Force Reserves in 1989.
